American Geophysical Union (AGU) is a worldwide community that supports professionals and enthusiasts interested in the Earth and Space sciences, providing them with resources and opportunities to deepen their knowledge and understanding of these fields. The areas of subjects include the study of Earth’s core, land, aquatics, atmosphere, and geospace.

Identity, Exhibition, and Environmental Design

Huddle Room System

The AGU’s new building is the first net-zero energy office renovation in the Mid-Atlantic, reflecting the organization’s principles and celebrating its centennial. Our design highlights the building’s technological features and incorporates its architectural aspects, while providing an appealing yet functional space.

Stairwell Graphics

Huddle Room

We designed our environmental displays to showcase the Earth Sciences, featuring vivid imagery devoid of people and composed in a flat, two-dimensional style. The colorful photographs were arranged to encircle the huddle room and seamlessly blend into the frosted glass, creating a visual marker that both captivates the viewer and ensures privacy.

Hallway Graphics

In addition to the huddle room, our environmental designs were also implemented in various other locations and features. These included bathroom hallways, lumicore glass installations, stairwells, office dividers, and conference rooms, all designed to showcase the beauty and importance of the Earth Sciences through vibrant, captivating imagery.

Centennial Logo

Tour Graphics Design System

As the centennial anniversary of AGU coincided with the organization’s net-zero renovation, we seized the opportunity to design a logo that would not only pay tribute to this important milestone but would also be relevant beyond it. Our design process involved exploring the shape of the Earth and its connection to the letterforms of AGU and the double circle of the zeros, allowing us to emphasize the planet’s curvature and create a powerful visual representation of the Earth Sciences.

Tour Graphics Design System

Tour Graphics

We employed an arc and circle system to create tour graphics that were printed on sustainable wood, providing an engaging and informative way to showcase the building’s technological features.

Tour Graphics

The tour centered around the four pillars of net-zero: generation, reduction, absorption, and reclamation, each of which was designated a specific color and illustrations for easy identification. Our goal was to highlight the innovative and sustainable elements of the building while also emphasizing the importance of environmentally responsible design.
